Description: DISA Valve O-RING for Intake Manifold Adjusting Unit. ** Don't go for the cheap stuff. Don't go for the exorbitant prices. Buy the O-ring that works. Buy it from the guy who owns a BMW and did this job in person ** FitsAll E46 (3 series), E60 (5 series), E56 (X5), E83 (X3) BMW vehicles with M54 and M56 engines Description If you are here, you probably know or read in the BMW forums that these O-Rings on the DISA valves deteriorate over time. It causes some of the dreaded vacuum-related fault codes (P0171 and P0174 sound familiar?) Replacing the O-Ring is a very inexpensive way to start. Even if your problem ends up not being the o-ring, you will have peace of mind of having done something that eventually needs to be done. A BMW DISA Valve retails for $380.42. Replacing the o-ring is a fraction of that. As a BMW owner and a DIYer, I did this job myself. It was a long research to find the correct o-ring because there is no part number for this o-ring for BMW's made after 2001. In the old DISA designs, the ring came separately under part number 11617504543. In the newer designs, we have to scrape off the existing ring and fit a new one. Therefore, the precise size, shape, thickness and material of the o-ring becomes very important. When I replaced my o-ring in my M54 engine, I did all the research and found the one that works. I bought in bulk and selling it to the DIY enthusiasts for a fair price. This is an all-silicone O-Ring. Silicone has many superior qualities to rubber for performance under heat, compressability, flexibility and resistance to abrasion. All the situations this o-ring would be put under in other words. Here are all the ways this silicone o-ring is the one I preferred to use:The backbone of silicone contains silicon and oxygen, while the backbones of most of the other rubbers contain carbon-carbon bondsSilicone is more resistant to heat, chemical attacks, fungus attacks, UV and Ozone attacks than normal rubberSilicone is much better than all other rubbers for thermal insulation due to its heat resistanceSilicone rubber offers special properties, which organic rubbers do not posses. Organic rubbers have poor tensile and tear properties at high temperatures while these properties are excellent in silicone rubbers at the same temperature conditionsFAQsQ) Should I buy a Silicone or a Viton O-Ring? A) For this application, both will work excellent. Rather than falling for the gimmicks, let's focus on the facts. Viton O-Ring is the trade name for a Fluorocarbon material. Its temperature range is -15ºF to 400ºF. Silicone O-Ring has a temperature range of -65ºF to 450ºF. In other words, they both have ranges that far exceed the conditions that would exists inside the DISA. Both will work perfect. I personally chose the silicone and it works great, but have no worries using one or the other Q) Will this O-Ring work for my BMW? A) If you have the M54 or M56 engine, it will work regardless of the body type you have. The following body types came with the M54 and M54 engines. E46 (3 series), E60 (5 series), E56 (X5), E83 (X3). I have some of the specific models listed below, but the common denominator is the engine type. If you have the M54 or the M56 engine, this is the O-Ring for you A) If you have the M52 engine, it will not workHow toJust do a video web search for "E46 DISA oring replacement" Compatibility From the forums, I gathered that this is compatible with all of the following. I personally changed it on a 2002 325i. Please make sure you do your research for compatibility. This list could be shorter or longer.
