Blue Book Magazine - Dec. 1930 - Vol. 52 - #2 - ERB "Tarzan, Guard of the Jungle

Description: This auction is for a vintage Blue Book Magazine published in December 1930 - Vol. 52 - #2 by McCall Co. of Chicago, Ill. featuring the third installment of a seven part series titled "Tarzan, Guard of the Jungle" by Edgar Rice Burroughs. All seven parts were printed in The Blue Book Magazine from October 1930 thru April 1931 copyright by Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc. ERB, Inc. decided the subject matter in the story was too controversial (communism, racism, etc.) that they decided not to put the story into book form and, in fact, seem to have abandoned the tale, since this story is not listed as one of the Tarzan books. ERB, Inc. did not renew the copyright and, in May 2021, the story was published in book form from the seven original parts by Fiction House Press. This magazine was printed in the larger format of 11.5"X8.5" which was started in the October 1930 issue, previously the size was 10.0"X6.75". This was an attempt to compete with the larger "Glossy" magazines on the stands. The condition of the magazine is very good and complete with no missing or torn pages. There is yellowing and chipping of the page edges but the pages are still very supple and readable. The magazine has been displayed in my smoke free library for many years, but it is now time to pass it along.
