Cher wasn't crazy about disco, but she needed a boost to her career and went along with it. When her 1st album "Take Me Home" blew up, she was able to tour big with it and get back to Las Vegas for a good run. Casablanca immediately had her record the 2nd disco album "Prisoner", which didn't do as well, but helped her to continue touring. When Giorgio Moroder was doing the music score for the Casablanca movie "Foxes", in 1979, Donna Summer and Giorgio wrote the theme song "On The Radio" for the movie and Neil thought it would be a good idea to pair Giorgio up with Cher to see what they could come up with together. The duo wrote a song called "Bad Love" which ended up on the 2-LP soundtrack, but nothing more came of their working together. That's unfortunate, because Donna Summer had grown tired of disco and wanted to go more in a pop rock direction and Cher had her fill of disco and was ready to move on as well- that would have been a good time to have Giorgio come up with some kind of rock duet for the 2 divas. But Donna left Casablanca and Cher wanted her 3rd/last album to be rock so Neil let her put out "Black Rose" which Cher and her then current flame Les Dudek had formed a band called that. Cher asked that her name not appear on the album, she just wanted it marketed as Black Rose, so just a goup shot of the band was placed on the back cover. And the rest is Herstory. Reply2Helpful CklingmanOct 6, 2023 I bought this when it came out and has always been my favorite Cher album. She kicks butt on this! I mostly listen to hard rock and metal but this has always been up there as one I love. ReplyHelpful salitrovMar 15, 2022 Edited 2 years ago Just found this at an unassuming record store in LA for like five bucks in great condition and had to have it! One of my favorite finds. It's honestly a decent album and the pressing sounds great. Love Cher's deep and coarse vocals and yelling and the overall presentation. Must have been a fun departure for her while it lasted. Reply2Helpful Lee_ArmstrongJul 20, 2021 It's been awhile since I spun this LP. I'm struck by Cher singing her ass off, totally owning the rock lead vocals. At times she sounds like Pat Benatar. Les Dudek blisters on electric lead; and Gary Ferguson's drums punch and jolt violently. The songs haven't stuck in my head; but man, they go down easy. Great album!
