Description: This is a figure commemorating one of the most infamous American badmen of the Old West, Thomas Edward "Black Jack" Ketchum. Ketchum was born October 31, 1863 and died April 26, 1901. Ketchum was born in San Saba County Texas. He worked as a cowboy for a few years, but left Texas in 1890, possibly after committing a crime. Ketchum's first major crime was in 1892 when he an a few other men robbed the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe railroad of a large payroll. Ketchum's brother Sam would join him in 1894. Black Jack's second major crime was the murder of his neighbor John Powers. It was later believed that Will Carver and Sam Ketchum were the actual killers of Powers. By that time Black Jack Ketchum was a notorious wanted outlaw. Ketchum sometimes led his own gang and sometimes rode with members of the Hole-In-The Wall gang. Ketchum's nickname came from him being mistakenly identified as another outlaw Black Jack Christian, and the nickname stuck. Ketchum and his gang committed many train robberies and killings over the years. Sam Ketchum would later die of wounds he received in an attempted train robbery on July 11, 1899. About a month later Black Jack Ketchum tried to single handedly rob the same train. As he approached the train Ketchum was recognized by the conductor. The conductor wounded Ketchum and he was captured. Black Jack Ketchum was sentenced to hang. His last words were "Good-bye. Please dig my grave very deep. All right; hurry up". Black Jack Ketchum was one of the most colorful characters of the old West. PLEASE NOTE-while this figure does not look exactly like Black Jack Ketchum, there is a bit of a resemblance. This figure is designed mostly for the history or western fan and not for play. This figure is not quite as articulate as some of my figures but the figure displays well. gunbelt and holster are custom made with marxman sixgun. sold as is. stand included. Please note the following-when a figure is a custom figure that means it is not a licensed product,or "official" but something the customizer did by combining figures and accessories from different makers and toy releases to come up with the custom figure or figures. I started customizing figures a few years back because I couldn't find more than a handful of "official" releases and unable to find figures of people I wanted to collect. I checked in to the market of custom figures. Most of the custom figures available back then cost several hundred dollars, so, I started doing my own. Because I needed to support my new hobby, I started selling some custom figures. My prices reflect my acquisition cost, time involved, and some profit. Thanks for the look, have fun shopping!
