Description: Bibliographical Essays, A Tribute to Wilberforce Eames. Cambridge, Ma.: Harvard University Press, 1924. First edition. 6 ½” x 9 ½”. Pages xix, 440. Hardbound, no dust jacket as issued, but with gilt edge top. Illustrated Nice association copy of the first edition of this important work, honoring Eames (1855-1937), the highly acclaimed bibliographer and long-time scholar at the New York Public Library. Slight wear commensurate with age and use including bumping to the corners and offsetting to the front flyleaf. Bookplate of Nathan Billstein on front pasted flyleaf and a vintage listing for the volume from a dealer’s catalogue tipped onto the free front flyleaf. Pencil notation on the front pastedown indicates that the volume was acquired for $10 in September 1926! An important work in the history of books and bibliography that includes many noteworthy articles, among them on Identifying American Imprints, Royal Primers, New England Primer, The Literary Fair in the U.S., American Types, Maryland Tract of 1646, Cotton Mather, Eliot Indian Tracts, Wall-paper Newspapers of the Civil War, Translation of the Rosetta Stone, Colonial American Arithmetic, Books on Architecture, and the Use of Hebrew Type. Still a fascinating and enlightening read. Please reference photos for details, and ask questions before bidding. Item will be shipped by USPS Media Mail, US buyers only, do not ship internationally.
