Description: Wise Old Owl Religous Patriotic painting Relief by B F Perkins Rare to find a BF Perkins with Owl Relief created in 1988 24 inches tall x 18 inches wide Signed This painting is a colorful one of reds and blues. He embelished the painting with his usual good -living sayings and attached a large owl figurine. "The wise ole owl sittin' in the oak tree.. the less he spoke , the more he heard. He often found scraps of salvaged objects to enhance his art. His paintings often incorporated the American flag, the Statue of Liberty, his church, and inscriptions preaching advice for virtuous living. May have minor rubs otherwise good condition Alabama Folk Artist, BF PERKINS, took some courses at a Junior College in Bankston, Alabama. After spending time in the Merchant Marine and traveling the world as a young man, he served in the Marine Corps from 1921 to 1925. He became a Minister in the Assembly of God and rose to the rank of Bishop. When we met him in 1992 he was the Pastor of a small congregation in Bankston, Alabama.B. F. painted on canvas, gourds and mailboxes which he bought from government surplus. He painted many patriotic pieces and wrote patriotic statements on his work.His themes also included King Tut and biblical stories. His work is colorful, and his patriotic red, white and blue are prevalent in his art. He traveled extensively, met other self-taught artists, and exchanged artwork with them.
