Description: ELISABETH MATSCH, a sculptor known professionally as Betti Richard, died on November 13, 2005. Although her death was ascribed to natural causes, she had Alzheimer's disease for more than 12 years. Elisabeth Matsch was born in New York City on March 16, 1916, the daughter of Therese Schramm, a pianist and a Wagnerian soprano, and Joseph Westhauser,, a journalist and a playwright. After the death of her father, her mother married an old family friend, Edwin H. Richard, who legally adopted her, and was her devoted father until his death at the age of 101 in 1967.
