Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE I AM NOT SELLING A KIT, only a new, full-size copy of the kit PLAN for a Berkeley SUPER DUPER ZILCH old time UC stunt plane. The SUPER DUPER ZILCH by Berkeley was Jim Saftig's simplified version of his famous SUPER ZILCH. Picture # 4 shows the SUPER DUPER ZILCH model on which the builder used a small aileron tab on the outboard wing to make sure the model did not roll in on takeoff. This model has a 52" wing span and usually used a Super Cyclone ignition .64 or Ohlsson & Rice ignition .60 engine. Today you would use a Fox .35 or even a .29. Here is a historical note for those who might use what old timers know about famous designs ---- Saftig's INVERTING STUNT SHIP had a very thick airfoil. When Berkeley kitted it and called it the SUPER ZILCH, the airfoil was made thinner so they could get more wing ribs on a standard sheet of balsa. Their dies were always dull and they crushed the balsa so they needed some slop room around their ribs for the crushing to take place. When they kitted this SUPER DUPER ZILCH the thin airfoil was kept over from the SUPER ZILCH. My 6th picture is of the left half of a die-cut wing rib sheet from a Berkeley SUPER DUPER ZILCH kit. Only 5 ribs were on the full length of balsa sheet. I am even more convinced now that Berkeley thinned Saftig's original airfoil in order to get those 5 ribs on a 2" wide balsa sheet. If you just want to fly for fun, and aren't entering an Old Time Stunt contest, where no changes are allowed, thicken these thinned out airfoils and have a slower flying but far more enjoyable flying model. When I first suggested this, you wouldn't believe the flack I got back from Old Time Stunt purists who feel that a flaw in a vintage kit model should be kept as it was forever, not as the designer would have intended it! As a BONUS I include a nice history of Berkeley Models Inc. This great copy of my original 1952 SUPER DUPER ZILCH kit PLAN and BONUS documentation will come folded and in a manila envelope.
