Description: Bela Sziklay (1911-1981) "L'Aratro" Original Signed Colour Etching I think the translation of the title is either The Plough or The Plow, either way a farmer steers an old fashioned wooden plough pulled by two string white oxen, with snow capped hills in the background. Sziklay was born in Hungary and trained in Paris, but then spent most of his active life in Italy. So it is possible this scene he has captured is in the high alpine pastures of northern Italy, although it could possibly be back in Hungary to the south of the Tatra Mountains?? I would guess the former - the ploughman looks tyrollean. Plate; 19cm x 28.5cm. Sheet: 27cm x 38.5cm. Printed on a pale cream wove paper. The etching is loose, not mounted, not framed. Signed in pencil right lower margin, titled left lower margin and denoted as being an aquaforte originale centre.Signed within the plate - printed signature lower left. Condition good with no foxing, tears, damage ir creasing. Remains of framers glue top edges of sheet on reverse only. Colours are strong and well defined. My photos are in natural daylight, and I do not digitally enhance the images. I try to ensure what you see is whatbyiou get
