Description: This wonderful purse is a 1920's, Flapper Era little bag thata was meant to be attached to the belt. There is a small pocket inside that was meant to hold a tiny mirror. It is a purse that would have carried taxi money, lipstick, a comb and a mirror. Taxi fare would have ususally been about 10 cents. No Flapper worth her salt would venture out at night without an escape plan, usually involving a taxi. Bathtub Gin, Jazz Music, and dancing. Lots of dancing. It was a very high energy time! The little purse is hand made with cutwork (thread is cut away to make a design) and raised embroidery - also called stumpwork. It is beautifully made, and in excellent condition. The first two pictures above are scans, and they are the closest to the real color. The fabric is silk and a bit shiny, so it was really really hard to photograph. The last photos are just me and my camera - they didn't come out as well as I would have liked. It is a beautiful piece, great to wear, or to display.
