A Ghost in Monte Carlo (1990) Romantic intrigue based on the novel by Barbara Cartland. In the 1880s a convent school girl and her courtesan aunt move to Monte Carlo, assume the identities of the Countess de Secret and Mademoiselle Phantome, and soon become the talk of the town. With this new notoriety, the girl discovers her first chance of love, but her happiness is risked by the aunt's plot to avenge the death of her sister. The Lady and the Highwayman (1989) Swashbuckling tale of romance, betrayal, jealousy, banditry, murder and court intrigue set in the 1660s, during the Restoration to the English throne of King Charles II. A Hazard of Hearts (1987) An 1810 nobleman wins a girl (Helena Bonham Carter) in a wager and sends her to his mother's (Diana Rigg) dark mansion. Duel of Hearts (1991) Lady Caroline Faye meets Lord Vane Brecon and is attracted to him. When she finds out that he is being accused of a murder he did not commit, she sets out to prove him innocent, and takes a position in his family castle as a companion to his mother. She discovers that the Brecon family is not only wealthy in land and fortune, but rich in secrets lurking behind the castle walls. A Ghost in Monte Carlo (1990) Weary of her very public life in Paris, an aging courtesan takes her orphaned niece from her convent home and relocates to Monte Carlo to begin a new life. Determined to bury the past, the courtesan Madame Bluet becomes the respectable Countess de Secret, and her niece Mistral, Mademoiselle Phantome. Soon, the secretive Countess and the beautiful Mlle. Phantome are the talk of Monte Carlo. Mistral finds herself surrounded by admirers - some with less than honorable intentions, while her aunt plots a long-awaited revenge. Will Mistral's chance for happiness be destroyed when her aunt's plot and past are revealed? The Lady and the Highwayman (1989) An outlaw lord (Hugh Grant) protects a 17th-century heiress from her scheming cousin and the mistress (Emma Samms) of Charles II (Michael York). A Hazard of Hearts (1987) When compulsive gambler Sir Giles Staverley has lost his estate and all his money playing dice, he realises that he only has one thing left of value: his daughter Serena. In a final game, he stakes his daughter's hand in marriage, convinced that this time he will not lose. Unfortunately, however, he does lose; to the evil Lord Wrotham. Unable to return home and tell his daughter that he has lost her in a game of dice, Sir Giles kills himself there and then. Lord Vulcan, who has witnessed the events, takes pity on Serena Staverley, although they have never met. He challenges Lord Wrotham to a game of dice in which the winner takes both Staverley Court and Miss Serena.
