"Girl with Balloon" (also known as Balloon Girl or Girl and Balloon) is a series of STENCIL MURALS around London by the graffiti artist BANKSY, started in 2002. They depict a young girl with her hand extended toward a red heart-shaped BALLOON carried away by the wind. The locations for this work include street murals in Shoreditch and the South Bank in London on the Waterloo Bridge. Other Balloon Girl murals were made by Banksy around London, though none remain there. Many were sold by the owners of the buildings they were painted on (by dismantling entire walls) and sold to collectors, often for vast sums. Banksy has several times used variants of this design to support social campaigns: in 2005 about the Israel-erected West Bank Wall in Gaza, again in 2014 about the Syrian Refugee Crisis, and also about the 2017 UK Election. A 2017 Samsung poll ranked "Girl with Balloon" as the United Kingdom's number one favorite artwork. In 2018, a framed version of the work got spontaneously shredded during a Sotheby's London auction, by way of a mechanical device Banksy had hidden in the frame. Banksy confirmed that he was responsible for the shredding and gave the altered piece a new name, "Love Is In The Bin." Sotheby's said it was "the first work in history ever created during a live auction." A bit of a stretch: it was actually created by Banksy prior to auction and added to at auction by Banksy's mischievous remote performance art act of shredding. A brilliant move on the artist's part, nevertheless! And the winning bidder insisted on paying for and keeping this now sensationalized and iconic Banksy work! Banksy's works now hang in major private collections and command prices (for larger works on canvas) into the tens of millions. THE SPRAY-PAINTING A rare ORIGINAL UNIQUE STENCIL SPRAY-PAINTING, executed in BLACK & RED SPRAY PAINTS, on a white paper-stock, blank on the verso. It depicts TWO LITTLE GIRLS, facing each other, a just-released heart-shaped RED BALLOON above them, about to float away into the sky. This is the only known depiction of TWO GIRLS with the red balloon by Banksy. It is a UNIQUE, ONE-OFF original work, and therefore SUPER-RARE! This is most definitely an ORIGINAL STENCIL SPRAY- PAINTING by hand and NOT a litho, print or copy of any kind. Currently unframed, the LARGE paper sheet measures: 39" x 29 1/4" (99.5 cm x 75 cm). The painting is UNSIGNED. NOT DATED, made sometime between 2002 and 2013, estimated. PLEASE NOTE: Under eBay's rules and regulations we have to sell this original spray-painting as in the manner of, or in the style of Banksy, as there were no official or recognized COAs or gallery documents attached when we acquired the work. Hence, although all aspects feel correct, it must be offered for sale on eBay, as is, in Banksy's style. In FAIR to GOOD CONDITION. There are multiple vertical ridges in the upper-half of the paper (from folding) and tape attached to the four corners. Some light edge-wear and one surface abrasion in the lower-left. NOTE: from the grey-black spray paint caught in the vertical ridges, the paper sheet may have been folded prior to painting; then possibly unfolded, stuck to a wall outside and painted, using the stencils. Possibly refolded after painting for transportation, we don't know for sure or what the reason or purpose was. Only Banksy knows the answer!
