Description: This early badge is circa World War I or II. Not sure. Acquired this from the great granddaughter of a WWI career officer in the United States Army. She lived on Chesnut Street in San Francisco and had limited information to pass on other than he was assigned to the S.F. Presideo late in his service. She recalls the family mentioning that her Great Grandfather was attached to of an infantry brigade during WWII. Apparently, he collected rare historical items from the two world wars, and this was one of the last items in his collection other than a couple of patches. Very interesting history regarding the U.S. ARMY 6TH INFANTRY DIVISION - RED STAR. During the President Roosevelt administration there was only one American Officer that ever had the title of FIELD MARSHAL and that was Douglas MacArthur (Philippines, 1936). I cannot offer exact provenance other tan the information mentioned. The known: Badge saddle back pin attachment is marked: IRVINE & JACHENS, SAN FRNCISCO (maker of police, fire, military and other law enforcement badges in S.F since 1906 This original badge has distinct red lettering and has the original working pin. Size: just shy of 2 inches, looks like 1-7/8 in.
