Description: This sure is an exceptional example of this relatively challenging to obtain but also attractive and desirable 1932 German Sanella Margarine issued card. The card is known in a few varieties and this has been designated as a Type I with centered "83" on the reverse. I've been submitting and buying/selling vintage graded sportscards since 1992-93, back when people would buy a graded PSA 9 key vintage rookie card from me at a show and after they bought it, they'd ask me how can they take it out of the holder. I've also been using SGC since their first few weeks in business. I've always preferred SGC for their very tight but also consistent grading and their superior holders. The card I'm offering here truly has me stumped. I bought this card already graded, so I did not have the advantage of seeing it out of the holder. However, I bought this card from a gentleman IN GERMANY, who had only just submitted it to SGC for its first time ever having been graded by anyone. He shipped it to me already having been graded by him through SGC and then shipped to me by Federal Express from Germany. Using strong magnification and proper lighting, I just can find no justification for this grade. I see ZERO paper flaws, album residue, wrinkles, etc. I see ONLY minor touches on the extremes of the sharp corner tips. This is the kind of a card that in 1993 -1999 (or thereabouts) . would have been a 7-8 quality card. From around 2000- early 2010's, I'd have expected a 5-6.5 on this kind of card. In the past two years, I'd expect a 4- 5 on this quality of card. But the 3 is a true head-scratcher. The only possible justification for the grade that I can see would be on the lower left corner. While the corner is still sharp enough to be several grades higher, there does appear to be a trace amount of the top layer of paper in that corners's border area that seems to be "missing.," or something similar If you buy this, and you have much experience assessing grading cards, I'd be anxious to hear why you think this card got a 3. I do not accept returns on graded cards, but ALL of my graded cards are shown larger than actual size in true and unaltered photos. And as I've been saying for over 30 years.... BUY THE CARD, NOT THE HOLDER! All 'threes' certainly do not look the same.
