Description: This is a rare, original, framed Barnett McFee Clinedinst studio portrait photograph of a young elegant woman taken around 1900-1905. B. M. Clinedinst had opened his Washington, D.C. studio in 1900 and immediately became the official White House photographer for Presidents McKinley, Theordore Roosevelt, and Taft. The photograph, measuring approximately 6" by 8", is mounted on an embossed dark olive green and cream-colored matte. The matte is embossed with the Clinedinst signature on the left and Washington D.C. on the right. The overall matte size is about 10.5" by 12" and is encased in the original dark green edge-latticed frame, complete with the original wooden back cover. The overall frame size is 11.5" by 14". As shown by the photographs above, the portraiture is excellent and demonstrates the quality of Clinedinst's work. The photograph and matte are in very good current condition and the damage to one corner of the wooden lattice frame is shown. As the official White House Photographer for several presidents, I would imagine any photography done by Clinedinst outside of White House Official Business would have commanded a pretty high premium for such quality work. Today, this fantastic piece would still display well and be a fine addition to your historical photography collection.
