Description: Up for auction is the following autographed 4x6 photograph: BIO: Captain Walter Mattson WWII B-24 Pilot of “Princess Carole” flew 35 combat missions. On September 13th, 1944 on a raid to Poland outside of Auschwitz concentration camp his B-24 experienced engine damage after being hit by flak. He had to go down to 5,000 feet and fly the 600 miles over enemy territory but two Tuskegee Airmen escorted him to the Isle of Vis (safe territory). Later published the book “Lone Wolf In Enemy Skies”. Recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross, 4 Air Medals. THIS IS AN AUTHENTIC HAND AUTOGRAPHED 4x6 PHOTOGRAPH.
