Description: Up for sale is a remarkable Authentic Antique Scottish Silver Dirk Hallmarked 19th century from Edinburgh Scotland with .925 proof marks. It also features a makers mark of J.R. as well as the Edinburgh Assay mark (castle figure) and thistle signifying it is .925 silver from the assay office. I do not know the maker however it is highly likely to be the work of master silversmith James Ross. It also has a very faint crude etching that appears to say 81st Inf. signifying possibly the 81st Highlanders Regiment. It is an incredible piece consisting of a intricate traditional Scottish carved wood handle set with topaz pommels in a leather sheath with .925 sterling silver fittings. I do not know if the blade itself is silver or a mixture of metals but it does show some rust and other wear as described in the listing details section above. This dirk set includes a fork and small knife, an authentic version similar to the dirk sets shown on Outlander, it is quite a rare find that has seen some great history. It measures approximately 9 1/4" long on the large blade with handle, the blade itself being 5 1/2" long. This is an amazing piece that I have had in my collection of antiques for over 35 years, and one of the few I have ever come across in the US in all those years of collecting and reselling antiques. It would be a wonderful addition to any museum or high end collection. It will ship free to domestic USA. Thanks for looking and please see my other listings for more rare premium antiques and fine art with new additions listed weekly!
