Description: Australia actually fought two wars in WW2, the first against Rommel and the vaunted Afrika Korps in North Africa, and the second when they were called back to defend the homeland against the Japanese in 1942. Australian troops of WW2 were armed with the tried and true SMLE Enfield rifle and accompanying P-1907 bayonet. This Australian Post-WW1 Pre-WW2 1919 DATED LITHGOW ARSENAL P-1907 ENFIELD BAYONET is in good condition, with a light overall leftward bend to the blade, some light rounding and chipping to the blade tip, some sharpening to the blade edge, some chipping to the upper blade edge, some light finish abrading at each side of the blade tip, some scattered cleaning, scratching, pitting, and patina at each side of the blade, guard, and pommel, some light fading to some of the markings at the obverse ricasso, reverse ricasso, and right side of the guard, a sizable nick in the top front right edge of the guard, a chip in the lower outer right handle scale, some scattered darkening to the handle scales, and with some overall age wear evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the bayonet is in fine shape, with no other damage. Most interestingly, it features a 16 7/8" slight drop point fullered blade that retains approximately 80% of the original blued finish, sports tough "Queensland maple" handle scales secured by two thick metal screws, and is stamped at the ricasso with its maker, the famous "LITHGOW", along with the model year in a shield, "1907", and the rare date of manufacture, "1919". Australian arms production was significantly curtailed after the Armistice ended the Great War in November 1918, making any Australian Enfield bayonet from the interwar period quite scarce today. It carries two "A in a star" proof marks at the reverse ricasso, along with some additional letters and numbers stamped at the right side of the guard and pommel (all of the markings on this piece were correctly applied in inverted fashion), boasts a fully functional "locking lug" attachment at the pommel, and is a fine example of a very rare, original Australian Post-WW1 Pre-WW2 1919 DATED LITHGOW ARSENAL P-1907 ENFIELD BAYONET.
