Description: Method of payment Auricula-bear's Ear Primrose Weinmann Museum Lithograph Auricula ursaThis is a beautiful full-color folio-sized (approx. 13" x 19") Museum Quality reproduction of Johann Wilhelm Weinmann (1683-1741) 1730s Mezzotint BotanicalsThis is a gorgeous print. The photo does not do it justice. Text is crisp & colors are vibrant.Weinmann's comprehensive work, Phytanthoza iconographia, comprised eight folio volumes with 1025 hand-colored copper engravings. Weinmann produced one of the most comprehensive and finest sets of botanicals ever. His background as an apothecary is evident in the composition and style of the prints, which are at once scientific (almost herbal/medicinal), and beautifully decorative as well. Most prints were engraved by Johann Jakob Haid (1704–1767), a German engraver who worked in Augsburg. Haid came from a German family of artists and engravers.Original Weinmann 1730s prints sell for $200 - $2,000 -- This reproduction print sold for $49.00 in museums. This botanical is reproduced on high-quality heavyweight paper with copper plate impression.Note: This print is larger than my scanner bed resulting in some shading in scanned image that is NOT present in actual print. This print is super high quality and condition. I will send a combined invoice reflecting your savings. The Nature of Prints & Engravings: It was not until the 20th century that prints were commonly produced for the print itself. Prior to this, virtually all prints (and engravings) were produced as illustrations to be included in a manuscript, book, newspaper, or pamphlet. A vast majority of original prints have been over the years removed from these original sources. Prints are produced using many different techniques: relief printing (woodcut & wood engraving), intaglio printing (steel & copper plate engraving, drypoint, aquatint, etc), and planographic printing (lithography, serigraphy, inkjet, laser, etc.). While the commercial value of a print depends on such factors as age, rarity, and condition, the real value of a print is its tie to its history and/or its esthetic beauty.
