Aug 10, 1968 World Champion Green Bay Packers vs New York Giants Bishop Charity

Description: Complete, intact, program from the New York Giants at Green Bay Packers Bishop’s Charities Game on August 10, 1968 at Lambeau Field. The great thing about these pre-season programs is they show players who might not have played a down in an official NFL game and so are not included in most of the statistical databases. Program measures 8.5 by 11 inches and has 72 pages (including the cover) ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ The 1968 Green Bay Packers season was their 50th season overall and the 48th season in the National Football League. Under first-year head coach Phil Bengtson, the team finished with a 6–7–1 record, third place in the four-team Central Division of the Western Conference. It was the Packers' first losing season in a decade, and marked a turning point in team history, starting a long period of futility and decline known as the "Gory Years". From 1968 through 1991, Green Bay had only five winning seasons (1969, 1972, 1978, 1982, 1989), made the playoffs twice (1972, 1982), with one win (1982).A few weeks after winning Super Bowl II in January 1968, Vince Lombardi stepped down as head coach but remained as general manager, and longtime defensive coordinator Bengston was promoted. Lombardi left after the season for the Washington Redskins.Their roster that year was Herb Adderley, Lionel Aldridge, Donny Anderson, Ken Bowman, Zeke Bratkowski, Robert Brown, Tom Brown, Lee Roy Caffey, Fred Carr, Leo Carroll, Leon Crenshaw, Carroll Dale, Willie Davis, Boyd Dowler, Dave Dunaway, Jim Flanigan, Marv Fleming, Gale Gillingham, Jim Grabowski, Forrest Gregg, Doug Hart, Dick Himes, Don Horn, Bob Hyland, Claudis James, Bob Jeter, Henry Jordan, Ron Kostelnik, Jerry Kramer, Bill Lueck, Errol Mann, Chuck Mercein, Mike Mercer, Ray Nitschke, Francis Peay, Elijah Pitts, Bucky Pope, Dave Robinson, John Rowser, Gordon Rule, Bob Skoronski, Bart Starr, Billy Stevens, Phil Vandersea, Travis Williams, Francis Winkler, and Willie Wood. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ The 1968 New York Giants season was the franchise's 44th season in the National Football League (NFL).[1] For the 1968 season, the Giants traded divisions with the New Orleans Saints, with the Giants moving from the Century Division to the Capitol Division.[2] The Giants finished with a 7–7 record, which placed them second in the Capitol Division, five games behind the Dallas Cowboys.[3][4]The Giants did not have a first-round selection in the 1968 NFL/AFL Draft; their first pick was Rich Buzin, taken in the second round with the 41st overall pick.[5] New York began the season with a four-game winning streak. After a four-game stretch in which they had three losses, the Giants went to Dallas and posted an upset victory, 27–21. With that win and a victory against the Philadelphia Eagles the following week, the Giants moved into contention for a Capitol Division championship. However, they lost the final four games of the season. The 1968 regular season was Allie Sherman's last as head coach of the Giants; he was fired after the preseason in 1969.[6]The Giants roster was Bruce Anderson, Roger Anderson, Ken Avery, Ronnie Blye, McKinley Boston, Barry Brown, Rich Buzin, Pete Case, Mike Ciccolella, Vince Costello, Bobby Crespino, Tommy Crutcher, Henry Davis, Darrell Dess, Bobby Duhon, Scott Eaton, Tucker Frederickson, Pete Gogolak, Andy Gross, Charlie Harper, Chuck Hinton, Jim Holifield, Homer Jones, Jim Katcavage, Joe Koontz, Ernie Koy, Gary Lane, Greg Larson, Spider Lockhart, Bob Lurtsema, Bruce Maher, Randy Minniear, Joe Morrison, Sam Silas, Fran Tarkenton, Aaron Thomas, Doug Van Horn, Freeman White, Willie Williams, Butch Wilson, Gary Wood, Steve Wright, and Willie Young
