The image is sharp and the colors much richer on this print than normally found. As usual, one edge is slightly rough from being removedfrom the binding. This is an original hand-colored print - #174 - from the royal octavo first edition of John James Audubon's Birds of America, published 1840-1844. Lithographed, printed, and colored by J.T. Bowen, Philadelphia, 1840-44. The first octavo edition was produced under the direct supervision of John James Audubon and features strictly hand-coloring. The credits are in italics, as required. Includes Audubon's bird biography of the Sharp Tailed Finch and a xerox of the original title page. Comes in a plastic protector, and will be sandwiched between wider foam boards for mailing.
