Description: Atari XF551 Disk Drive as pictured. I sold 4 of these within the past year, and I did receive feedback that one of the drives did not format at 360K. In fact, it was this drive. Therefore to improve my process I now format a disk at 360K and then provide an individual photograph for each auction of this particular drive in operation. The customer was right, this had a CSS upgrade in it, therefore I removed that upgrade and restored this to the original factory configuration, and that fixed the format issue. I am now including with each auction both a copy of DOS 2.5 and DOS XE on disk - which this drive formatted. Therefore, I can say this drive has been tested to work, it works with both DOS 2.5 and DOS XE, and to format 180K and 360K disks. With that said, very few people use DOS XE and I personally recommend you use this drive with SpartaDos X (not included - SpartaDos X is typically on cartridge or internally installed with a device like a Ultimate 1mb).
