Description: Arts & Crafts curtains 3 hand embroidered Pinecone panels by Dianne Ayres Three linen curtain panels embroidered in tones of brown and green featuring pine cones and needles, two comprising a set for a window 48” W x 60” long, the other is 48” W x 64” long, all fully lined with cotton. These are by Dianne Ayres who established an acclaimed Arts and Crafts Period Textile studio in Oakland, CA in the early 1990s. The decorative needlework was done by hand. Ayres adapted the Pinecone motif from an original design by Gustav Stickley’s Craftsman Workshops. Kevin Tucker, in Gustav Stickley and the American Arts and Crafts Movement (Yale University Press for the Dallas Museum of Art, 2010), includes a curtain with the pine cone design, and writes that “although Stickley offered a pine-cone design table square, pillow, and table scarf in 1905, and added an appliqued pine-cone portiere in 1908, his firm did not catalogue pine-cone curtains until 1909, pricing them at $7 to $8 a pair, depending on length. This pine-cone design is attributed to Harriet Joor (1875-1965).” Good vintage condition with wear commensurate with age and gentle use. These quality panels are pinch-pleated and weighted, designed to be used with drapery hooks (not included); they have been stored folded for several years and will benefit from a dry-cleaning and ironing. Please reference photos for condition, and ask questions before bidding. Item will be shipped by USPS Mail, US buyers only, do not ship internationally. Returns not accepted.
