Made by Goberg, Germany under the Rasper name. In 1895 Hugo Berger (Goberg) started in Schmalkalden Germany his first metal factory, were decorative ironwork was manufactured in a traditional way. Known primarily for his hammered iron pieces, Goberg (Hugo Berger) is best known for his wide ranging variety of candlesticks and smoking accessories. Typical of Goberg's work are the use of materials such as iron and brass. Besides being considered a metal fabricator of the Arts & Crafts era, Goberg is also closely associated with the German Jugendstil or Secessionist movement of the same time period. Jugendstil was the German component of the Arts and Crafts movement that was so popular worldwide. Much of his work was sold at Liberty of London with pieces finding its way to the U.S.Measures approx. 7 3/8” tall with a base diameter of 5 1/2". Marked "Rasper Austria" and Goberg on the bottom. The condition is original with patina as shown in the pics. In this piece the hand hammered marks with dimples and studs can be seen clearly.It is in as found antique unpolished condition and still has a little wax residue. The last photo shows the top with some waxy residue which will come off if you choose to polish. Please study the pics and ask any questions
