These novels include historical fiction set in the Middle Ages and during the Napoleonic Wars. Including all the Sherlock Holmes works which had been published by 1903. Conan Doyle continued to publish Holmes works until 1927. Signed letter from Conan Doyle tipped inside front material of "The White Company." The Exploits of Brigadier Gerard Smith, Elder & Co. was a British firm of publishers founded by George Smith (1789-1846) and Alexander Elder (1790-1876). In 1859, they published The Cornhill Magazine. The firm began as booksellers and stationers in Fenchurch Street, moving to 65 Cornhill in 1824, and moving to 15 Waterloo Place. It was also involved in agency and banking with a strong Indian connection. After the death of Reginald Smith (Smith's son-in-law), on 26 December 1916, the book rights and remaining stock of the firm were bought by John Murray in May 1917.
