WATSON Autograph document signed by Arthur Conan Doyle with his initials “ACD” on a small page of lined paper removed from a notebook bearing Doyle’s handwritten scores from a game of billiards. The list of thirteen scores are attributed to four sets of initials, one of which “A.H.W.” is for Major Alfred Herbert Wood. Wood (1866-1941) was a close friend, private secretary, and business manager to Doyle from 1897 to 1930 and is believed to have served as the model for the famous Holmes character Dr. John H. Watson. The document measures smaller than octavo, was created in [July 1908], is in fine condition with minor age wear and toning, and has been authenticated by and is accompanied with documentation from International Autograph Auctions Ltd., the leading autograph auction house in Europe.
