Description: ARTHUR B. REEVETHEWARTERRORCRAIG KENNEDY stories, Volume 4Frontispiece by WILL FOSTERHARPER & BROTHERS, ©1915 CONDITION: No jacket, some shelfwear, pages a bit tanned with age, but well bound. I call it GOOD. This is volume 4 of the Craig Kennedy stories, with COLLIER at the bottom of the spine. This classic detective novel, set during the tumultuous times of the early 20th century, follows the brilliant detective Craig Kennedy and his companion Walter Jameson as they tackle a web of criminal plots and conspiracies that could change the course of history. From the sudden death of a renowned American inventor and the theft of his revolutionary electro-magnetic gun to the diabolical plans of a murder syndicate that spans continents, Kennedy is drawn into a maze of danger that tests his skills and wits like never before. With themes of war, deception, and cutting-edge science, "The War Terror" offers a unique glimpse into the fears and technological advancements of its era. Arthur Benjamin Reeve (October 15, 1880 - August 9, 1936) was an American mystery writer. He is best known for creating the series character Professor Craig Kennedy, sometimes called "The American Sherlock Holmes", and Kennedy's Dr. Watson-like sidekick Walter Jameson, a newspaper reporter, in 18 detective novels. The bulk of Reeve's fame is based on the 82 Craig Kennedy stories, published in Cosmopolitan magazine between 1910 and 1918. Commentaries on line: Reeves' books, featuring Craig Kennedy, are collections of short mystery stories in which the detective uses the scientific methodology of the early 20th century to solve crimes. To me, it's fascinating to get this glimpse of what the future (1920 - 2020) held in the mind of a person who lived 100 years ago. Some of the technological devices he envisioned have never been invented, while others have come and gone. In comparison, our understanding of scientific "fact" is incredibly advanced. There is a sense of nostalgia for the simplistic days of very early technology. It's like reading a futuristic novel in reverse -- not unlike steampunk, but definitely different. Similar to Sherlock Holmes, the amazing Craig Kennedy from the USA has cracked open several quality cases with a twist. I loved this book as with all Arthur Reeves material. The title was misleading as I expected a terrorist style storyline, but I found it a very good read to the end. _____________________Modern shipping charges keep going higher and higher.
