Description: Medallic Art Company 50th Anniversary Medal in bronze, with a gold plating or wash. Sculpted by Bruno Mankowski and struck by the Medallic Art Company (MACO) in 1950. It has an elegant Art Deco design. "Mankowski won the 1949 design competition (and $1,500 prize) to create the medal commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Medallic Art Company. Its obverse featured an Art Deco relief bust of Minerva, Goddess of the Fine Arts, with a pantograph in the foreground, the device used to trace a relief for reduction. Its reverse featured the palm of a hand holding the same medal shown on the obverse. The work alluded to both the artistic inspiration and the mechanical process necessary to create a medal. Examples of the "Minerva Medal" are in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Gallery of Art, and other museums." For those of you who like deeper history, here is an interesting story about this medal, including the competition for the design. https://www.coinbooks.org/v20/esylum_v20n01a16.html and here is a little more about the designer Mankowski. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruno_Mankowski Size: The medal is 2.75" in diameter and .25" in thickness. Condition: The condition of this medal appears to be very good. The gold plating or wash is still very well preserved, and it has a nice golden glow. Please see all photos. The last 2 photos show it in a beam of sunlight, very golden. The medal will be well packed and shipped promptly, USPS Priority.
