Description: Danish Art Deco / Funkis Jar w. Teak and Solid Silver Lid Since the lid has been made with a carved out piece, it is likely that this is either meant as a preserves or jam pot / jam jar or a mustard pot, or something similar indeed. This is a really nice example of this type of jar, which was highly popular around the 1930s-1950s in Denmark. They are highly collectible, and exist today as different combinations of lids and pots, where designers like Arne Bang and Bing & Grøndahl are among the more desirable, and silversmiths like Hugo Grün, Georg Jensen, Hans Hansen etc. made lids for these. I have another example listed for sale on here - with a crystal bowl for the base. Do check it out. Condition: See pictures. Very nice vintage condition. The jar is in mint condition, no issues. The lid and finial is in great condition bar a repair on one of the edges. Stamps:Bottom of the jar is marked with the Bing & Grøndahl logo as well as 612/K for design number. The inside of the lid is marked '830S L.G.' on the silver, meaning that the finial and inlay is 830/1000 parts silver (a highly regular Danish grade of silver for the time), and L.G. being the maker's mark for silversmith Laurits Theodor of Copenhagen, OR L. Grønlund of Odense. They used the same mark and overlap ever so slightly in time, so it is difficult to tell. Measurements: Height, total: 10,6 cm / 4.2 in Diameter: 8,3 cm / 3.3 inWeight:240 g / 8.5 oz I measure in centimeters and grams and then do conversions to US measurements, so the most accurate numbers are the metrics. The US measurements should only be seen as guides. Please ask me any questions you might have. I'm more than happy to help!
