What's on this DVD: Artillery This DVD is about the incredible world of “Artillery". It was said that 4 out of 5 enemy casualties in the Korean War were from Artillery. As far back as man has been fighting, there has always been a need to fight your enemy from a distance. This DVD is mostly about the last century’s Artillery, mostly WW2 and on. Features some very rare footage of a Military school at Tamalpais in 1915, showing the use of a cannon (see Artillery Newsreels). From to how to "lock and load”, and how to aim. The 280mm Atomic Anne is featured in film #2. The Nazi Atlantic Wall Artillery is featured in film #3. The brave men who attacked the Germans against their massive artillery on D-Day are quite impressive and equally amazing. We here at Campbell Films salute all those who served. We hope you'll strap in, aim, and enjoy! 1st Film: "Fire Power". This is a great film created by the US Army about Artillery. This was part of the "Big Picture" series and contains lots of footage covering all types of artillery. Well done and worth seeing. Runtime 27:33 Min's 2nd Film: "Fire and Control". Another film created by the US Army. If you ever wondered what goes into firing a 105mm cannon, this film will show you. Slow, but thorough, well worth watching. There is a lot you want to hit your target each and every time. Runtime 21:05 Min's 3rd Film: "280mm Cannon". This is a color film with lots information on the massive 280mm cannon. While this film is not in the best color, it tells quite a great story about the need for a large cannon. The 280mm first fired a 280mm conventional round and was also designed to fire the Mark-9 atomic round. The film shows the 280mm actually fire the "Atomic Round”. Sometimes called "Atomic Annie, or Amazon Annie", it was considered un-practical. This was even though it could get a round off the ground in 20 minutes of setup. Runtime 10:26 Min's 4th Film: "Nazi Atlantic Wall Artillery". This is a short Nazi newsreel with some footage showing some very interesting Artillery pieces. They used these pieces to protect the Atlantic Wall. This is stunning footage showing the size of some of the guns and also amazing because the Allies put the order out in a single day. It is easy to see that a hit from one of these guns would sink a ship. Runtime about 11:40 Min's 5th Film: "Artillery Newsreels". This is a collection of Artillery Newsreels. 1st - 1915 Tamalpais Military Academy practice firing a 1890 Spanish-American Hotchkiss war cannon - extremely rare footage, 2nd - Ordinance Repairs, 3rd - San Francisco’s Miley Batteries firing, 4th - Artillery Supplies Trapped Battalion, 5th - Army Salvage (WOW, lots of WW1 guns cut up for scrap), 6th - Factories Speed Anti-Aircraft Guns, 7th - Army's new Field Mortar Gun, 8th - Army fires a barrage, 9th – World’s biggest gun: the 240mm cannon, 10th - USMC "The Thing", 11th - Army's Self propelled gun. Really fascinating footage. 17:18 Min's 6th Film: "US Artillery in Afghanistan". US Troops train and fire special guided ammunition in Afghanistan using the 777 Cannon.
