Description: Aquamarine Crystal, Mt. Antero, Colorado. The crystal weighs 31.08 cts, and measures ~33x11 mm. Rare! Gem Grade, Multi-Terminations with C Faces. Not quite facet grade, but this gem crystal has nice color and displays a complex "diamond cut" termination with some etching but no damage. "Diamond cut" terminations are all natural but kind of resemble a cut diamond looking from the top, hence the name. Mined this year from the North Face, just above the famous snowpatch area of Mt. Antero. Smooth, glassy side faces and nice color. This crystal would look great in any collection. If most collectors found one or two like this in a whole summer of collecting, they would be pleased. Top shelf. Mt. Antero is considered the highest gem producing area in the U.S. at 14,269 ft, and has produced fine crystals for over 100 years, but nice ones are hard to get. Most finds are broken sections or pieces. All collecting is done above approx. 12,000 ft in altitude in steep areas, and is subject to lightning, rain, snow, sleet, rockslides, rolling rocks, cave-ins, and altitude sickness, among other dangers. The crystals can be loose in the scree where they have weathered out, or if you're lucky you can find the intact pockets in pegmatite in decomposing or intact granite. Currently the best collecting spots are mostly on private mining claims so access is limited in those areas to knowing someone and securing permission to collect. Shipments are made via USPS Priority Mail with appropriate insurance. Returns can be made as long as the item is received back in the original condition, but must be properly insured for the full value of the item by the returner.
