All parts made from steel, stainless steel and strong grade aluminum. Texture of aluminum parts ("Plate" and "Strips" may vary) Q & A Question: What is the smallest shower floor size this device can be used with? Answer: The shortest working radius gives you 17" distance, which works in small 3' x 3' shower floor. If you have even smaller shower, which is rare case, you may not even need this device, but you still might can use this device. Just use smallest strip in directions where it fits, then connect perimeter of mud with 2 feet level (or torpedo level), then shave off rest of the mud by a flat trowel. Question: What's the largest shower floor size this device can be used with? Answer: This kit covers an area 8.6 feet in diameter, which is bigger than your typical medium sized shower. Unlimited amount of strips can be added, which gives an unlimited area of coverage of the shower floor. Question: What if top of a drain is out of level? Does it affect performance? Answer: No, it doesn't have any negative effect on quality of your job. Strips rotated around a Pole which is installed in vertical position. Out of level drain does not affect Poles' orientation. Question: What are the drain sizes this device can be used with? Answer: Device can be used with residential drains up to 5" in diameter (or square 5" x 5"). Question: What kind of device can I use with drains more than 5" in diameter? Answer: In most cases, drains with a diameter more than 5" are used in "commercial" bathrooms and in outside shower areas. Those bathrooms floors are usually pre-sloped to a drain or have no concrete around a drain and tile men are using different techniques to work with it. Those techniques are simple and don't require specially designed tools and methods. Question: How big slope this device creates? Answer: Device creates slope 1/4" per linear foot Question: Is lope on this device adjustable? Answer: Slope is not adjustable. This device creates the same slope at any point of shower floor surface, which is 1/4" per linear foot and reflects the building code. Question: Some professionals suggest that with this device perimeter of the floor surface is not leveled, is it true? Answer: Edge of the floor mud little bit curved. You can photos on this main page. This difference is insignificant and, does not affect tile installation process, aesthetic value of the final product and it's unnoticeable to the eyes. At the same time, It guarantees safety of the customer. But, you can adjust it easy and make it "leveled" at your own risk. You can find how to do it in the manual. Question: Some professionals suggest that they prefer to build shower mud by old traditional way with perimeter of the floor leveled. Which way is better? Answer: Old traditional way to make a shower floor mud (with perimeter leveled) is not safe and can cause customers injury, death and possible lawsuit. In some cases, shower drain is located out of center of the floor and more close to the wall, which cause different slope in different areas of the shower floor. Slope bigger than outlined by the code is not safe. Question: I plan to use Marble which is thicker than quarter inch can this tool still be used? Answer: If your drain is adjustable(can be unscrewed and screwed down), practically you can set material with unlimited thickness. With not adjustable drain you can set material up to 5/8" thick, which is practically more than enough. This is more detailed explanation: Level of the strip can be adjusted for two positions: 1/4" and 5/8" thickness of material. Kit has ring shaped adapters which can be used to adjust the level between those two positions. Normally height of a drain can be adjusted. In this case, you can unscrew drain after you finished your mud work. As a result, difference between level of the mud and level of the drain became bigger, what gives you a chance to install material thicker than 5/8". By the way, you can screw drain down (instead of screw it up) and set thinner material. So, with adjustable drain, you don't even need to adjust this tool. Usually tile men have to deal with not adjustable drains when they do remodeling. Keep in mind that in 95% of cases tile men install no more than 5/8" thick material in showers. Question: ( made by real potential customer ) There was no info on how the center pin device was held in place? Magnetic? There must be a firm attachment in order to allow this kind of movement shown in the video? Answer: ( made by real customer of the product ) the pin is threaded and screwed into the clamping stock. it is secure with no movement. i do remodeling for a living and recommend this product. the video is for real, the tool works just as the video shows that it does.. pretty great and adjustable design. By Brian W. on August 14, 2013 Additional important information This is the most advanced and effective way to build mud bed in a shower pan. There are two ways to mud shower floor: "Old Traditional Way" and a "New and Correct way" "Old Traditional Way" "Old Traditional Way" is NOT correct, because it based on the unwritten rule that "Perimeter on the floor mud should be "leveled". This old method doesn't follow the rule outlined by construction code, which stated that shower mud slope should be 1/4" per linear foot. This "Old Way" to mud shower also can be dangerous for your customer. Any accident with customer potentially can be followed by a lawsuit. This is the reason why this Old Method is not correct in details: - in many instances shower drain located way out of a center of the shower floor. With Perimeter of the mud "leveled" and with drain more closer to the wall, slope is bigger. With the difference between two opposite distances from drain to walls, you have the same difference between two slopes. This is a good example: when tub replaced by a shower, distance from drain to wall in one direction can be under 12" and distance to the wall in opposite direction can be 48" (Typical tub and shower 3' x 5') . Approximate difference between those two distances in a ratio 1:4. It means that in one direction slope will be 4 times bigger than in opposite direction, which is unacceptable. "New and Correct Way" This device represents a new, correct way to mud shower floor, which based on the rule "Slope is the same at any spot /location of a shower floor". This way is NOT dangerous for customer and follows construction code requirement. With this method perimeter of the shower floor mud is NOT "leveled". Mud in corners area is slightly higher. This deviation is INSIGNIFICANT, can not be noticed by the "naked eye" and does not affect process of laying tile significantly. This is SAFE and CORRECT way to mud shower floor. This device in the marked for many years already and has proven itself as a reliable product. If you prefer to have perimeter leveled, you can adjust perimeter after you've done your work with device at your own risk. It's easy for professionals. If you are DIYer, you can follow detailed manual, which included into package.
