Description: This listing is for two pieces of Kapton Foil which were flown to the moon as part of the Apollo 16 spacecraft. Each artifact measures approximately .5" across, and it's been mounted to an 8.5x11" certificate for display. This Kapton was originally applied to the exterior of the Apollo 16 spacecraft during its voyage to the moon. The material is used as an insulator, keeping the crew protected from the frigid vacuum of space and the extreme heat of reentry. After Apollo 16 returned to Earth, the burned foil was removed from the craft, and these pieces were preserved. Both pieces are visibly scorched from the reentry. The Certificate of Authenticity is from The Right Stuff Space, one of the most reputable resources for Apollo memorabilia. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. Thank you for viewing this listing!
