MCHENRY FLAG STAMP SC# 1597andA POSTAL CIRCULAR CANCEL ON THE SECOND STAMP (SAME) This cover honors the 10th anniversary of the landing of the Apollo 11 astronauts on the Moon. The cover was prepared by Rockwell International Space Systems Group with a cachet in bright red that depicts the surface of the Moon, the Earth, a Space Capsule and a Space Shuttle. Below the cachet is printed "Ten years ago, we went to the moon. Now, we-re making a better world". Inside the cover is a card that entitled "APOLLO LOG". It contains a short bio. of each of the Apollo missions (7 through 17) and a brief on how the Rockwell Corporation in Downey, California has helped in the development of the Apollo program. The U.S. postage in the upper right of the cover is the 15 cent Ft. McHenry stamp. The circular cancellation is "Downey, California, July 20, 1979. The second stamp on the cover has a cancellation with two heavy bars, within which is stamped "DOWNEY - HOME OF THE SPACESHIPS COLUMBIA 1969-1979" and "July 20, 1979 Space Station Downey, Calif. 90241", the tenth anniversary of Man's First Landing on the Moon during the Apollo 11 mission. The cancellation also includes a likeness of a Command Module similar to the one that Michael Collins was in when he circled the Moon during the Apollo 11 mission and a likeness of the Space Shuttle Columbia, which makes its home in Downey, California.
