The finish has natural defects as a result of normal wear and time. The black painted finish is in superb condition, though it does have some scuffs and imperfections that serve to enrich the aged look of the piece. The topcoat reflects pruning//wrinkling below. Once again, this element only adds to the charisma and charm of the chest. It does not impede usage. Sealed below, the wrinkling/pruning is no longer actively wrinkling/pruning, but still imparts that old-world aesthetic. The black matte finish and bronze hardware are classy and timeless. This chest of drawers not only displays and holds spices; it will brighten and add sophistication and elegance to any space lucky enough to have it. Made using pressboard, zinc alloy metal knobs, and clear plastic display panels. Backing is held in place with very small screws. Front of each drawer is 1/2" thick with various real spices displayed between the clear plastic front and pressboard backing (safety note: the pretty spices are not for consumption. they are for display purposes only!).
