Description: Around 1850, Baguettes in France got longer. I discovered a French Baguette bowl on the web, priced at over $300, that was dated 1891, and it was very long (40 inches), like the one you are looking at here (42.5 inches). Just like old glass, old wood develops wear spots on the bottom. You will see 3-4 distinctive wear spots on the bottom of this bowl in the last photo. In French Bakeries, after the dough was kneaded and shaped, it was placed in a baguette bowl, so it would keep its shape while it was rising. Today, the replica bowls are available in many different places, most for around $55-$80. Most will look "shabby chic", featuring semi-painted wood in a variety of colors, and will be 30 inches or shorter, and used, I assume, as a kitchen decoration. Please carefully inspect all photos to determine condition.
