ITEM DESCRIPTION: Here is an Absolutely Beautiful & Ultra-Rare Antique Circa 1921 Hand-Colored Inspirational ‘Life Maxim’ Photo-mechanical Motto Verse Card (not a later reprint or modern reproduction) Depicting a Mountain & Lake Landscape Scene Pinecone Accents with the Poem/Verse titled, “Opportunity”, which in poetry is often called a ‘TUT poem’, and acronym for ‘The Undeniable Truth’, and from an old Buffalo Evening News printing of this poem in 1921, it ended with the acronym ‘TUT.’, which I believe, is a direct reference to that type of poetry, and not the author of the poem, which remains a mystery, but is certainly a wonderful Apothegm/Maxim... The poem is fantastic and reads: OPPORTUNITY Not once to every man of you In doubt and fear and strife Do I present myself. But each New day throughout your life, When skies are clear and fate is kind And life is one sweet song, You think not of your shadow then That with you goes along: − But when there comes a rainy day You quickly call to mind That fate has left you shadowless And proven most unkind.− Ah, puny man, do not bemoan That I have taken flight ! I’m still at hand:−the trouble lies In your imperfect sight. Publisher & Motto Card Info: The publisher’s copyright, name & location, ‘© John Drescher Co., N.Y.’, appears printed very tiny lower-left in the corner area just beneath the poem, and the inventory number, ‘No. 86’, appears printed lower-right respectively. The publisher, John Drescher Co., Inc., N.Y. (1911-1928) was a picture frame & moulding manufacturer, as well as art dealer & publisher known for their various art prints, lithographs & collotypes, hand-colored prints & mottoes, ‘Truart Tints’, ‘Waldorf Prints’, ‘Rhine Prints’, hand-colored photogravures & photos, calendar prints, poems & motto prints, puzzles and mirrors. The Motto is on a medium-weight cream-colored wove paper stock with beautiful hand-colored accents and the piece had been previously framed at some point a very long time ago, as there is a little acid burn around the outer edges from the wood of the inner frame rabbet, but thankfully the piece hasn’t suffered any real or significant UV color fade to the hand-coloring from the sun or exposure and still presents well with rich hand-coloring and tones. Size & Condition: The Motto size is 6” x 4”. The Motto is in Good Rare+ condition for its antique age and has been in one of our archive drawers amongst other lithos & prints since it was purchased by the Meibohm family and hasn’t seen the light of day in all this time. It’s as good as any collector could hope to find in its original ‘As Found’ condition and will frame up beautifully. No tears. Ultra-minimal (less than a handful) of very tiny & faint foxing specks scattered here & there on the Print which are hardly noticeable and aren’t even really worth mentioning. Slight normal toning of the paper stock from its antique age, but isn’t too noticeable amidst the cream color of the paper stock itself. This beautiful antique motto would make the perfect addition to any man, be it husband, brother, boyfriend or student in your life.
