This is for a unique and beautiful older vintage, likely antique, natural agate bead 5 decade rosary. It is a large rosary. The beads are all hand wrapped with brass wire, in essence caged, there are no drilled holes in the beads. Very hard to find if not rare. This wrapped technique is very similar to the antique "pools of light" rock crystal jewelry treatments. Crucifix is an ebony painted wooden cross having a thin antique celluloid surface. Not sure what metal the Christ figure is, no visible markings. The agate prayer beads are beautiful and each one is unique, I believe there are various types of agates. The end agate may be a moss agate, looks like there are some banded ones, I'm no expert. They all share a common hue with the exception of the 6 dark agates. There are 59 prayer beads and are all intact. This size rosary is sometimes called a wall rosary. A few agate beads have a very small surface ding which may have occurred in the polishing process or later, this is very minimal. Some of the agate beads have an interior line showing which is inherent in the stone and cannot be felt. A few have a tight surface fracture line that a nail can catch on, possibly natural and exposed in polishing process or possibly a tight crack, but all beads are whole and beautiful. There are no obvious chips to me. I handled every bead. These are old and pre-owned, so there is light age appropriate wear. You can see in pics that the ebony paint finish on wooden crucifix has age appropriate peeling on the sides and back. The INRI metal finding at top is a bit loose as you can see in some pics, easily kept in place with a tiny dot of glue or tighter brad if desired by new owner. A tiny brad hole at bottom of celluloid indicates a little brad is missing at bottom. I have not cleaned this beautiful rosary or made any repairs, it is as found at a multi generation estate. Overall it is in beautiful pre-owned vintage/antique condition. Remember detail pics are magnified. Measures approx. 46" long ! from bottom of crucifix to top of rosary beads. Crucifix approx. 3-3/4" x 2" x 5/16" thick wood. Drop or pendant of rosary approx. 12", the loop of beads approx. 68" all around (34" lengthx2). Agate beads being unique vary in size - the 6 larger dark beads approx. 7/8" long x up to 1/2" wide, remaing beads vary appros. up to 5/8" long x up to 1/2" wide.
