Made in England Pre-owned and in Pristine antique condition ********** What is "Argenta" If you are new to collection Wedgwood Majolica you might find this article interesting. "It was in Maureen Batkin's book on Wedgwood Ceramics from 1846-1959, published in 1982, that the term 1st appeared. It describes a particular kind of majolica ivory color palette that became popular in 1870-1880. Wedgwood used the term "Argenta" to distinguish majolica with this ivory color background from all others. It was Wedgwood's response to changing tastes in Victorian England where the deeper colors of earlier majolica were starting to fall out of favor. Today most collectors prefer the stronger color palette. However we feel that the combination of Argenta combined in a display with the stronger colors actually enhances both the bright colors and the Argenta for its sophisticated beauty."
