ANTIQUE WALNUT AND BURL VICTORIAN BREAKFRONT BOOKCASE DESK

Description: Here's a striking American walnut and burled walnut breakfront bookcase with a dropfront desk from circa 1875. This grand bookcase was refinished in the 1990's and shows the well-chosen wood grain of the figural and burled walnut throughout. There are 4 glass doors in the top section : 2 full length doors left and right and 2 smaller doors above the dropfront of the desk. The base has 3 horizontal drawers above 4 molded and raised panel doors. The desk interior is as impressive as one might expect in a piece of this quality. The tiger maple and satinwood of the interior and the drawers is outstanding. There are 2 adjustable shelves for the center bookcase and 4 shelves for one side and 3 for the other side. There were probably 4 for each side but only a total of 7 remain. Certainly an additional shelf could be cut if desired. The inside shelves measure 15 inches wide X 9.5 inches deep at the left and right sides and 31 inches wide X 11 inches deep at the center. This 2 piece unit is 68 inches wide X 83 inches (6 foot 11 inches) tall X 21 inches deep at the base. The bookcase transports in 3 pieces : the base, the bookcase/desk section and the cornice. All 4 glass doors have pin hinges and come out when the cornice is lifted off. You don't have to own a Victorian home to house this bookcase. It will be a significant decorative addition to even the most modern interiors of quality. I was happy to have the opportunity to purchase this piece and I'm happy to offer it at a reasonable price.
