Thank you! DESCRIPTION- A tub-shaped antique Victorian wedding/engagement ring box, estimated circa the late 1800s. This ring box is covered in black-coloured leather and lined with cream-coloured silk and velvet. It would add a unique touch to your proposal, engagement shoot or wedding ceremony or accompany a treasured piece of jewelry. MARKSOn the interior, in black lettering: “[Crown]R. STEWART,BY APPOINTMENTTO THE QUEEN.GLASGOW.” Some relevant dates:- Robert Stewart was established in 1835 by two brothers, Allan and Robert Stewart. They were clock and watchmakers of Glasgow- Robert Stewart continued and grew the business on his own- Between 1886 and 1896, Robert Stewart was appointed goldsmith, silversmith, jeweller, and wholesaler to Queen Victoria MEASUREMENTS- Diameter: Approx. 26.8 mm- Height: Approx. 29.3 mm- The ring slot can accommodate a ring with a thin to narrow-width band (up to approx. 2.9 mm)- Note: The size of the ring slot is not adjustable, as antique ring boxes were often handcrafted with either a wooden or a pressed card structure and intended to accommodate a specific piece of jewelry CONDITION - Overall, the ring box is in excellent antique condition and still enjoyable for many more years to come. It bears signs of wear commensurate with age and use. Surfaces have marks and scratches that one would expect in a piece of this age. These ‘imperfections’ add character to the piece rather than take away from it- There is minor wear/loss to the leather, including scuffs and marks- The interior is clean and does not have any unpleasant scent- There is minor wear/loss to the silk and velvet, including marks and fraying- The hinge, hook, and eye closure are all intact. Note: While the hook and eye closure work, the hook also releases independently. The closure is not secure - All of the above are shown in the photos provided- There is no visible evidence of a previous repair or restoration SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS- Antique handcrafted jewelry boxes are highly desirable and sought after.
