Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE ANTIQUE US GLASS CLEAR PORTLAND MAYFLOWER PATTERN GOLD TOOTHPICK HOLDER EAPG A beautiful piece of early American made pattern glass (EAPG) in the form of a lovely little toothpick holder. It was made by the United States Glass Company formerly of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The pattern is known as “Portland” and also as the “Mayflower” pattern. It is a quality piece of pressed glass made in Crystal or clear colored glass and decorated with gold trim to the top rim (all mostly worn away over time). Please be sure to read the “Age and Condition” paragraphs below. This piece was part of my mother’s toothpick holder collection. According to her records she acquired this one in 1973. This pattern is pictured in the book Glass Toothpick Holders: Second Edition by Neila & Tom Bredehoft and Jo & Bob Sanford on page 197. If you are not familiar with the NTHCS (National Toothpick Holder Collectors’ Society) it is a great organization and you can learn more about them and collecting toothpick holders at their website. I do my best to describe all items as accurately as possible and to the best of my ability. Some of my photos may be somewhat lighter or darker than actual to better show detail or color. Age and Condition This piece dates to circa 1898. It is in very good to excellent condition. Please look closely at the photos as they are an important part of my description of this item. There is some minor roughness or wear (tiny flea bites) to the edge of the foot and to the vertical ribs around the body. There is wear to the gold trim – see the photos. Otherwise, there are no chips, flea bites, cracks, hairlines or repairs to the glass. There are also some extremely light signs of use or wear to the underside of the foot consistent with the age of this piece. Please keep in mind these photos may be blown up at least 8-10 times normal, so anything you see will look 8-10 times bigger in the photos than it really is. Please note: if you see a dark spot in the photos, it is from my camera and is not a mark on the piece. It will be either just to the right of center towards the bottom or slightly above center on the right side of the photo. Approximate Dimensions About 2.25” (5.7 cm) across and sits about 2.375” (6 cm) off the table. Approximate Weight About 4.625 ounces (132 grams).
