Description: Offering an antique Coast Tsimshian (New Metlakatla) Northern Northwest Coast Native American Indian plain twined western red cedar bark basketr, decorated with false embroidered Zoomorphic face possibly of a cat or bear, and “KGBU Alaska” on the other side. This is probably in reference to an old Alaska radio station that called itself the “voice of Alaska” and covered stories and news from all over the state. The face and letters are worked in dyed and natural grass (bluejoint/fowl mannagrass/tufted hairgrass) and maidenhair fern stems. False embroidery decoration can only be viewed on the exterior wall of the basketry body. Measures approximately 6" wide by 4” tall. Very good condition, with some light misshaping of form. The basket is not dry and is very flexible. Sold as is, please see photos and ask questions before bidding. We do allow for local pick-up (Seattle, Washington - area), as well as combined shipping ( so long as eBay's International Shipping Program allows ).
