Description: Henry Troemner Apothecary Scale Class A, 4 oz made in Philadelphia. The scale is intact and operational. Included is a weight set by Chicago Apparatus Company. Glass top to scale has a minor chip on the underside. Scale measures 15 x 7 x 7 1/2 inches. Scale and weights weigh 7 lbs. This model of Troemner scale can be calibrated from the opening on the right side off the scale. The weight set has all cylinder weights but we have no idea what small gram weights may have been originally included--two are present now. There are two very old pieces of cloth tape on two corners of the cover but these joins are not loose so the purpose of the tape is unknown--we have left it in place as found. Troemner started as a manufacturer of scales, balances and weights in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Henry Troemner, a German immigrant, was originally a locksmith and learned the balance craft after he arrived in Philadelphia. From the beginning, Troemner earned the reputation of being a manufacturer of high quality products. The business grew steadily after the discovery of gold in California on January 24, 1848, as the company was known for its bullion and assay balances. Henry Troemner's three sons continued to develop and grow the business, and by the early 1900's Troemner was recognized internationally as a world leader in the balance and scale manufacturing industry.
