Description: Vintage Antique Solid Hardcover Tall Round Travel Hat Box Duffle Bag 26 inches tall; 13" in diameter.Likely held a felt or silk insert, but not present in this piece.Metal rivets in good condition.Leather handle in fair condition.Cotton web shoulder strap is worn but intact. This antique Victorian hat box, with its oval shape, is believed to be from the late 1800s to the early 1900s. Perhaps it was used to protect an Edwardian gentleman’s top-hat collection during travel. It would also hold several, perhaps a hat salesman’s case or Portmanteau. This vintage vessel also has a webbed shoulder strap and a leather handle. The case is believed to be fashioned from leather, Bois Durci (wood flour and heated and pressed blood), or Vulcanite (hardened rubber), among the earliest plastics. This is a rare piece; we have not found others as large or in nearly as good condition.
