Description: The item for sale is a rare antique stoneware pitcher by John Swann Alexandria, Virginia 1819-1821. The item is stamped J. Swann ALEXa with a 2 for 2 gallons. The piece as shown is a nice example that does have some small ware. There is some chipping on the base rim just below the decoration, also some chipping on the right base rim, a chip on the side of the handle, and a 3" very tight line that does go to the inside of the piece. (The line is to the left of the handle. It goes down and starts to go towards the handle.) The right of the handle there is some brown discoloration. That is not a line. There are some in the making marks as shown. There is a dimple just under the decoration to the left. There is a trailing brown mark on the right side and some in the making pops and kiln marks. The pitcher does lean forward slightly meaning the back by the handle is higher than the spout. This item has no repair. It's a great piece with only a small amount of stoneware pieces by this maker. There is a nice trailing flower decoration and swags with dots around the top. The item is about 12 7/8" tall on the back rim and 12 1/4" by the spout. and about 6 1/2" in diameter across the base.
