In great condition for being over 100 years old! Dimensions: 18 grams - Length: 2.5 in, Width: 1.6 in History: I date this antique to the date range of circa 1884 to 1921, however it's more likely the range can be narrowed down to 1900 to 1915 pertaining to the majority of his work. Frederick Storer Gilbert was born on the date of 25th March, 1857 (3). Little information about Frederick's young life is available, and dates on when the company was founded contradict from source to source. The Philadelphia Museum of Art, claims that Frederick was 'active' from 1884 to 1921, while Silvercollection.it claims he was 'active' within North Attleboro, Massachusetts from 1900 to 1915 (1 & 2). According to his grave, Frederick was the father of Helen, Alice, and Frank Gilbert (3). Without concrete information regarding the reasons of foundation, and termination pertaining to the company, we are left to deduce strictly from the antiques on the market. I am confident that advertisements, and other indications of work and operation are scattered throughout the heap of possible sources, however I choose to settle on the fact that the wider range of operation of Frederick was from 1884 to 1921, while a more narrow range pertaining to the majority of his products come from the date range of 1900 to 1915 (1 & 2). We do know that Frederick made a lot of Sterling Silver Vesta Cases, which vary from design to structure. His hallmarks typically include the grade of silver (sterling or 925/1000), with a G and / or C to the left or right of the silver grade (2).
