Description: This is an antique 1905 oil painting on canvas of a portrait of a Spanish gentleman. It is in its original frame. The overall frame measures 29 1/4 inches tall x 18 1/2 inches wide (74.3 cm x 47 cm). The painting measures 22 inches tall x 15 1/4 inches wide (38.7 cm). Neither the painting nor the frame are in the best of condition. The painting seems to have quite a bit of embedded dirt/staining scattered all about. The canvas is what I will call ‘crumpled’ going around the exterior. There is a small hole to the left of his forehead. The frame was sliced down on the left side for some reason. It is missing a piece on top. It is cracked at the bottom. It has wear to the finish. It still holds well though. I must say this painting is just so intriguing. The gentleman has an incredibly intense, pensive look in his face. You can’t help but wonder what he’s thinking. It is signed all along the bottom, though it is difficult to make out. B??? de Gooding?? Ano 1905 Enero 2. Enero translates to January in Spanish, which is what led me to believe the painting is from Spain. It could though be from Mexico, Central or South America, or any other Spanish-speaking area. Please use your judgment. It weighs 6 pounds 1 1/2 ounces (2.766 kg).
