Description: ANTIQUE SAMPLER, FINELY WORKED SCHOOL GIRL EMBROIDERY, FRAMED, DATED 1839 Presenting an attractive antique framed 19th century Victorian period sampler that was purchased from an old time collector from Rochester New York.This framed sampler is a school girl alphabet example embroidered by Sarah Adams, Aged 12, dated 1839. Newly framed with skillfully hand embroidered sampler that depicts lines of various fonts in alphabet, two phrases and at base stylized tulip flowers, trees and animals. One phrases reads: Children obey your parents in all things for this is well pleasing unto the Lord. Colossians. Chap. 3, Verse 20.Second verse reads: Excommunicate all manner of vain imagine alone and walk in the way of the divine commandments.The embroidery work is very well executed, by a skilled hand, using colored linen threads on a fine linen ground. I believe this is English because of two embroidered crowns.Photographing this embroidery under glass was a challenge.A great early addition and worthy of collecting. APPROXIMATE MEASUREMENTSWith wood frame comes under glass: 20" x 20"By Sight: 13" x 12-1/2". CONDITIONGood. Embroidered on light weight linen and in good condition. Few tiny stain spots, no color run, no stitch loss, some fading, no repairs and with no holes. Hand hemmed on all four sides. Has no particular issues to signal, frame has some small areas where the frame has little rub wear in corner, in a new frame, and structurally sound. Not original frame.
