Description: Master wooden inkwell, painted and stenciled with green printed label on bottom. Label of the S. SILLIMAN Company of Chester, Connecticut. Has two reservoirs for ink and multiple holes for quill pens. Rosewood grained with gold gilt painted stencils of eagle and banner on sides. Height is 3.5” with a diameter of 5.5”. S. SILLIMAN and Company was known nationwide for its inkstands and inkwells. Abe Lincoln reportedly had a Silliman inkwell in his Illinois law office and one was gifted to Martin Van Buren, the president of the United States around 1837.
